FDR changed "Hawaii and the Philippines" to "Oahu"
This changed the meaning of the speech a little bit because Japa did not bomb all of Hawaii, they only bombed Pearl Harbor, Oahu. This Strengthened the speech because it made it appear that FDR knew more about what he was speaking of by being more specific. "Contained a Statement" was changed to "Stated" This helped to clarify the seech a little more by usingg less words to explain what was needed to be said. This also strengthened the speech by making it simpler and easier to understand The Section "people of this country" "Of this country" was removed. This helped with the tone of the speech because He is the president of the United States, so it was uncessesary for him to clarify because obviuosly and naturally he was talking about the people of the United States. This both strengthened and weakened the speech, because while, he was the president of the United staes, if misheard it could be thought that he was speaking about the Japanese. |
